About the artist
Gustavo Balbela (b. Porto Alegre, Brazil, 1997) is an artist, researcher and designer. He is a PhD candidate at the Norwich University of the Arts, holds a master’s in fine arts from UFRGS’s Institute of Arts and works as a designer and editor at Austral Edições. Gustavo’s artistic practice is developed by producing and collecting technical images presented in videos, installations or publications investigating globalisation, imperialism, and authoritarianism from personal perspectives. His theoretical research reflects on philosophical premises and consequences of such practice, most notably in dialogue with fields such as critical theory, philosophy of the image and post-structuralist anthropology.
